The Board says the conversation remains open
Following the strong community response to the announcement of 25 June 2026, the WCA Board published the following update on the official WCA Forum.
The original WCA Forum post requires authentication to view. For accessibility and historical context, the statement is reproduced below.
Since our recent announcement regarding changes to the WCA’s events, we’ve heard from a great many of you through a petition, forum threads, videos, social media, and emails. We acknowledge the frustrations and disappointment many have expressed through these channels. We want you to know that the Board of Directors and WCA Volunteers appreciate all the feedback. Even though we were not able to reply to everyone, we assure you that we have read every single message thoroughly.
A response of this scale only comes from a community that cares deeply, and that care is something we value greatly. The passion that so many of you hold for our events is not being taken for granted. Decisions like these are some of the most significant we are entrusted to make, and we don’t approach them lightly. We empathize with the community and understand that this change in particular matters a great deal, and we want to assure you that the perspectives shared over the past week are being given genuine consideration.
“For now, we have not taken any further firm decisions on this topic. We are taking the time to reflect properly on everything we’ve heard, and this remains an ongoing conversation.”
We’re grateful to be part of a community this invested in the future of speedcubing, and we’ll be in touch again as our thinking develops.
The WCA Board of Directors
Why this matters
A documented phase of reconsideration
This update is an important milestone in the timeline because the Board explicitly stated that the perspectives shared by the community were receiving “genuine consideration”, that no further firm decisions had been taken, and that the discussion remained “an ongoing conversation.”
On 19 August 2026, the Board later reaffirmed the removal of Clock and declared the decision final.
